Costa do Cacau is a tourist area in Bahia, which starts in Itacaré and continues to Ilhéus. There are the best beaches to practice surfing, sailing, sport fishing, canoeing, diving and rafting, practiced in the district of Taboquinhas, a small city of the golden age of cacao, 30km from Itacaré. The route made by the adventurers cuts a high region, with much Atlantic Forest, plantations of cacao and clove and the valley of the River of Contas.
In the Ativa leisure and adventure park, in Taboquinhas, there is activities such as zip line, slackline, climbing wall, archery, canopy tour (with 5 ziplines), kayak, stand-up, speedboat (until Cleandro) and observation of humpback whales (from July to November).
Hikes through the urban beaches of Itacaré, and trails, such as the Canion Trail, which explores the island on the Contas River, are also good options for on-site tourism.

RAFTING IN CONTAS RIVER

Arrival at the base of the Active Adventure. After preparation and delivery of the equipment, travel to the entrance of the river where the great rafting begins. The Rio de Contas is considered one of the best rivers in Brazil for the practice of this sport; Class III and IV rapids guarantee adrenaline. The landscape includes a beautiful canyon that is responsible for the bottleneck of the river and its consequent rapids. After an hour and a half of descent, arrival back to the base at the river’s edge. Changing rooms, showers, snack bar and snack are some items of the wide structure.

STAND UP PADDLE OR CAIAQUE RIDE - NORÉ WATERFALL

Leaving the base of Ativa, a two-and-a-half-mile walk through the calm waters of the Contas River to the mouth of the Coiudo River. With the tide we can navigate approximately 100 meters in this tributary to get close to the Waterfall of Noré (15 meters fall). Time to shower and invigorate us with a massage under the waterfall. The return to base can be carried out in the same way or simply crossing the river to get in our vehicle.

FISHING IN THE RIVER CONTAS

We leave the base of Ativa and go to the edge of the Rio de Contas. Just below the last waterfall there is a great place for fishing with tarrafa (circle net). By learning how to handle the net and how to play it right on the water the activity is very fun; the launch requires some skill that the native fisherman shows us and explains. With a little luck the dinner of the day will be fished. The fishery is carried out in several points of the river; climbing up and around the canyon looking for fish. The rock formations are amazing and several places invite for a swim.

SIGHTING OF JUBARTE WHALES

Sailing on a schooner we will arrive very close to the humpback whales (megaptera novaeangliae) that return every year to this region of warmer waters to mate and give birth.
Jubarte, also called humpback or singer, is one of the twelve species of great whales in the world.
In the period from July to November, invariably, we come across whales that can reach 16 meters in length and 40 tons in weight.

The zip line looks like a flight over the calm and blue waters of the Rio de Contas. During the course of 170 meters there is time to enjoy the beautiful view of the last river rapids, cacao farms and riverside vegetation, feeling the adrenaline and freedom to slide to the other shore. RAPEL IN THE NORÉ WATERFALL
Summary of the Roadmap / Activity:
The Coiudo River flows into Contas River, near the center of Taboquinhas, and forms the beautiful Noré Waterfall, 17 meters high.
To get to the waterfall we have to cross the Rio de Contas with a canoe or with a duck and walk 10 minutes of trail in the middle of cacao farms.
After the distribution of the equipment and the training, the bravest one begins the descent in the positive part of the waterfall with the guide next to him. At the beginning of the vertical descent, the guide gives the last instructions and the rappelista descends the following nine meters underwater. Adrenaline and emotion are certain. Circuit of 4 Beaches and Tijuípe Waterfall

Vehicle departure traveling 15 km along BA-001 to the beginning of the trail. In less than half an hour through the woods we arrived at Engenhoca, the surfers’ beach, a paradisiac place. The walk continues southwards through the small and beautiful beaches of Hawaizinho and Camboinha, finishing in Itacarezinho, the most extensive of Itacaré with 3.5km. Urban Beach and Prainha Hiking

Cocoa Farming and Chocolate Workshop

Few know the origin of chocolate … Few know the real chocolate …
We walk from the Active Base to the cocoa plantations of a small farmer in the neighborhood to learn the cocoa culture. From the harvesting of the cocoa fruit we follow the traditional process: we break the hard shell and manually extract the seeds to deposit them inside a wooden box. Next, the farmer prepares the removal of the honey: the seeds, wrapped with pulp, are gently pressed and gradually release a liquid called cocoa honey. We experience this delicacy described by its discoverers as “a nectar of the gods.” After we roasted and peeled the seeds to be pounded in mortar, we took the cocoa mass obtained to the wood stove and mixed with other ingredients to finally get the real chocolate. So just wait cool … We sampled this delicacy and packed some samples to take home.

After the wonderful and typical breakfast, we will continue to the cocoa plantations where the homemade chocolate will be prepared by the friendly farmer. The process is fun and interactive, that is, you will participate in all the steps: picking the fruit on the foot, separating the seeds, roasting seeds in the fire and kneading them with pestle … with a few more little secrets you will make your own chocolate, you will also taste the delicious cacao honey. 3rd day – Community of Rio do Campo and Waterfall of Pancada Grande
Transfer to Ituberá. Visit to the largest waterfall of the northeast coast, known as Pancada Grande, with waterfall of 61 meters, distributed in 2 steps. It is located within an APA (Environmental Protection Area) surrounded by the intense green of the Atlantic Forest and with great conservation status. Afterwards, boat ride to the fishing community of the Rio do Campo and in sequence, canoe trip in the mangrove with tasting of fresh oysters at the campfire. Return for lunch at the home of natives, the best of the Brazilian sirí. Tour in the community. Late afternoon, transfer to Pratigí beach.

4th day – Pratigí Beach and Quilombola Community
Day of beach, the Pratigí is approximately 25 km of extension, is a beach still without great human influence. Busy with palm groves, like coconut and palm trees, forming a spectacular view. When the tide is low, the waves are weak and the sea is calm, favorable for walks and a great bath. After lunch, we continue to the quilombola community of Jatimane, in which the remnants present the history, culture and charms of the village. Then we will be taken to the Sensorial Garden, to sharpen the senses and appreciate local herbs. During the visit is also exhibited the extraction of piaçava, a fibrous plant that has a lot of financial importance for the community. And to finish the visit, we will participate in a workshop of biojóias that are produced with raw material of the nature.

5th day – Master of clay on the Paraguaçu River and the historic Cachoeira city
Departure from Pratigí Beach to the Recôncavo Baiano region. The first destination is the District of Coqueiros (well-known for the production of ceramics) belonging to the city of Maragogipe. Arriving at the Paraguaçu River, lunch break and then visit the Ceramista Master Dona Cadu, a cheerful lady of 98 years who will receive the group in the middle of its thousands of clay pots. It will show the millenarian art in the making of the pots and tell the interesting stories of life.
Then we continue to the historic city of Cachoeira.

After breakfast, visit the Dannemann Cultural Center in São Felix. Place where the finest cigars are made, in an artisan way, by the nice ones
even the nonsmokers will be impressed by the cooking process. Then we continue towards Salvador, but we still make a detour to the Bay of Iguapé, east part of the Bay of All Saints. In this remote place we find one of the most significant monuments of the 17th century, the church and the ruins of the Convent of St. Anthony. Majestically situated on the banks of the Paraguaçu River, has already been the scene of parts of the novel Velho Chico. After visiting this unique place, we went to Salvador and stayed near the Pelourinho.

1st day: Tripto the interior village, river bath
Transfer from Ilheus airport to the interior of the Cacao Coast.
On the way we will visit one of the most beautiful viewpoints of the Brazilian coast (depending on the arrival time of the flight), and then we will travel along the road to Taboquinhas. The small town offers us two waterfalls, if we have time available we will take a refreshing bath.
The lodging will be in a small inn on the banks of Rio de Contas, Mel de Cacau, or in a mansion from the 1930’s. Dinner at local restaurant.

2nd day: Cocoa and chocolate day
After breakfast we will have a guided tour of the cacao farm of Vila Rosa. The guide will explain the cocoa cycle and processing processes by visiting the plantation, the drying barge, the artisanal chocolate factory with tasting of the products and the house.

In the afternoon we will go to the cocoa plantations of a small farmer where we will actively participate in the cocoa break and the removal of the delicious cocoa honey, the true juice of the fruit. After experiencing this delicacy we will prepare the cocoa candies; after peeling and piling the seeds in the pestle we will add the cocoa mass with other ingredients and we will take it to the fire (wood stove) … this will have a delicious chocolate … just wait to cool down to eat them or take them of memory for home.

3rd Day: Canyon trail and leisure activities
On this walk we can see the Rio de Contas and its rapids at various points, border a beautiful canyon with amazing rock formations and we pass an island with wild vegetation resembling a tropical paradise. The trail is of light / medium difficulty, with some passages on rocks and occasions to bathe in the river. Anyone who dares to jump off the edge of the canyon …
After lunch we have the options of the site of the Ativa at disposal … to walk stand up paddle or kayak in the calm waters of the River of Contas, to go down of tirolesa until the waters of the river, to swim in the backwater, to have fun in the wall of climbing or in the crazy ball or simply enjoy nature in the hammock, on the small private beach.

5th day:Walk to one of the most beautiful beaches in Brazil
After breakfast we will walk along the beaches of Resende, Tiririca, Costa and Ribeira, all are small and moon shaped, surrounded by coconut trees. After the beach of Ribeira, we will enter the forest, and we will follow a stream with several small waterfalls and, at a certain point of the trail, we will be able to refresh ourselves in the river. The trail follows in the Atlantic Forest, and almost at the top of the hill standing in a belvedere with a wonderful view. We will descend in the middle of a coconut grove and we will arrive in one of the most beautiful beaches of the Brazilian coast, whose name is Prainha.
Time to rest, drink coconut water in the shade of coconut trees and cool off in the sea.
Return expected to Itacaré in the late afternoon.
Day 6: Free day
Itacaré has many beaches in the surrounding area. On this day we can enjoy the beaches near the city or buy a package to visit the most remote beaches like Jeribucaçú or Itacarezinho. In addition to the beaches there are other tours such as the schooner in the Bay of Camamú, the 4×4 tour to the natural pools of Taipús de Fora and the ride in the Rio de Contas with a visit to a mangrove and a waterfall.
7th day: Transfer Out
Until transfer time, free day to enjoy the beach once more or to do that last minute shopping in the village.

RAFTING IN CONTAS RIVER
Summary of the Roadmap / Activity:Arrival at the base of the Active Adventure. After preparation and delivery of the equipment, travel to the entrance of the river where the great rafting begins. The Rio de Contas is considered one of the best rivers in Brazil for the practice of this sport; Class III and IV rapids guarantee adrenaline. The landscape includes a beautiful canyon that is responsible for the bottleneck of the river and its consequent rapids. After an hour and a half of descent, arrival back to the base at the river’s edge. Changing rooms, showers, snack bar and snack are some items of the wide structure.

Summary of the Roadmap / Activity:We leave the base of Ativa and go to the edge of the Rio de Contas. Just below the last waterfall there is a great place for fishing with tarrafa (circle net). By learning how to handle the net and how to play it right on the water the activity is very fun; the launch requires some skill that the native fisherman shows us and explains. With a little luck the dinner of the day will be fished. The fishery is carried out in several points of the river; climbing up and around the canyon looking for fish. The rock formations are amazing and several places invite for a swim.

Summary of the Roadmap / Activity:Sailing on a schooner we will arrive very close to the humpback whales (megaptera novaeangliae) that return every year to this region of warmer waters to mate and give birth.
Jubarte, also called humpback or singer, is one of the twelve species of great whales in the world.
In the period from July to November, invariably, we come across whales that can reach 16 meters in length and 40 tons in weight.

Summary of the Roadmap / Activity:The zip line looks like a flight over the calm and blue waters of the Rio de Contas. During the course of 170 meters there is time to enjoy the beautiful view of the last river rapids, cacao farms and riverside vegetation, feeling the adrenaline and freedom to slide to the other shore. The landing in the water is smooth. A boat carries the adventurers back to the base.

Summary of the Roadmap / Activity:The Coiudo River flows into Contas River, near the center of Taboquinhas, and forms the beautiful Noré Waterfall, 17 meters high.
To get to the waterfall we have to cross the Rio de Contas with a canoe or with a duck and walk 10 minutes of trail in the middle of cacao farms.
After the distribution of the equipment and the training, the bravest one begins the descent in the positive part of the waterfall with the guide next to him. At the beginning of the vertical descent, the guide gives the last instructions and the rappelista descends the following nine meters underwater. Adrenaline and emotion are certain. Circuit of 4 Beaches and Tijuípe Waterfall
Summary of the Roadmap / Activity:Vehicle departure traveling 15 km along BA-001 to the beginning of the trail. In less than half an hour through the woods we arrived at Engenhoca, the surfers’ beach, a paradisiac place. The walk continues southwards through the small and beautiful beaches of Hawaizinho and Camboinha, finishing in Itacarezinho, the most extensive of Itacaré with 3.5km. The trail passes through rocky shores, beaches and coconut trees with a beautiful view of the coast. After enjoying this paradise, drive by car to the entrance to the Tijuípe waterfall. An ideal place to relax and take a shower.

Summary of the Roadmap / Activity:Walk along the urban beaches Resende, Tiririca, Costa and Ribeira, all small and moon shaped, surrounded by coconut trees and / or Atlantic forest. After the beach of Ribeira, the trail enters the Atlantic Forest, following a stream with waterfalls. The walk is moderate, with some slippery stretches. At the top of the hill we stop at the belvedere to enjoy the wonderful view. After descending through a coconut grove, we arrive at Prainha, one of the most beautiful beaches of the Brazilian coast. Time to rest, drink coconut water in the shade of a coconut tree and take a shower.

Summary of the Roadmap / Activity:Vehicle until the beginning of the walk, 7 km from Itacaré. Take the 30-minute trail down to the beautiful beach of Jeribucaçú, a paradise stuck in the middle of the rocky coast with white sand and a beautiful coconut grove. At low tide there is access to the small and exotic beach of Arruda, with its natural pools among the rocks. The Jeribucaçú River flows into the beach, supplying fresh water for a bath. In this place can be appreciated also the mangrove that extends until near the beach.

We walk from the Active Base to the cocoa plantations of a small farmer in the neighborhood to learn the cocoa culture. From the harvesting of the cocoa fruit we follow the traditional process: we break the hard shell and manually extract the seeds to deposit them inside a wooden box. Next, the farmer prepares the removal of the honey: the seeds, wrapped with pulp, are gently pressed and gradually release a liquid called cocoa honey. We experience this delicacy described by its discoverers as “a nectar of the gods.” After we roasted and peeled the seeds to be pounded in mortar, we took the cocoa mass obtained to the wood stove and mixed with other ingredients to finally get the real chocolate. So just wait cool … We sampled this delicacy and packed some samples to take home.

DESCRIPTION OF THE SCRIPT
1st day – City Tour in Ilhéus
Arrival in Ilheus. City Tour in the historic center, starting with the visit to the house and museum of Jorge Amado to know his trajectory and his famous records, then stop at the Cathedral of São Sebastião that shows the architectural beauty and traces of the neoclassical style, then in the theater and, to finish , visit to the Bataclan (possibility to hear the stories). Soon, transfer to Taboquinhas with right to a stop in the best viewpoint of the Coast of Bahia, in Serra Grande.

2nd day – Chocolate Workshop and Hiking
After the wonderful and typical breakfast, we will continue to the cocoa plantations where the homemade chocolate will be prepared by the friendly farmer. The process is fun and interactive, that is, you will participate in all the steps: picking the fruit on the foot, separating the seeds, roasting seeds in the fire and kneading them with pestle … with a few more little secrets you will make your own chocolate, you will also taste the delicious cacao honey. During the afternoon, a walk on the Island of Rio de Contas in which we will contemplate the canyon, beautiful and good for bathing.

3rd day – Community of Rio do Campo and Waterfall of Pancada Grande
Transfer to Ituberá. Visit to the largest waterfall of the northeast coast, known as Pancada Grande, with waterfall of 61 meters, distributed in 2 steps. It is located within an APA (Environmental Protection Area) surrounded by the intense green of the Atlantic Forest and with great conservation status. Afterwards, boat ride to the fishing community of the Rio do Campo and in sequence, canoe trip in the mangrove with tasting of fresh oysters at the campfire. Return for lunch at the home of natives, the best of the Brazilian sirí. Tour in the community. Late afternoon, transfer to Pratigí beach.

4th day – Pratigí Beach and Quilombola Community
Day of beach, the Pratigí is approximately 25 km of extension, is a beach still without great human influence. Busy with palm groves, like coconut and palm trees, forming a spectacular view. When the tide is low, the waves are weak and the sea is calm, favorable for walks and a great bath. After lunch, we continue to the quilombola community of Jatimane, in which the remnants present the history, culture and charms of the village. Then we will be taken to the Sensorial Garden, to sharpen the senses and appreciate local herbs. During the visit is also exhibited the extraction of piaçava, a fibrous plant that has a lot of financial importance for the community. And to finish the visit, we will participate in a workshop of biojóias that are produced with raw material of the nature.

5th day – Master of clay on the Paraguaçu River and the historic Cachoeira city
Departure from Pratigí Beach to the Recôncavo Baiano region. The first destination is the District of Coqueiros (well-known for the production of ceramics) belonging to the city of Maragogipe. Arriving at the Paraguaçu River, lunch break and then visit the Ceramista Master Dona Cadu, a cheerful lady of 98 years who will receive the group in the middle of its thousands of clay pots. It will show the millenarian art in the making of the pots and tell the interesting stories of life.
Then we continue to the historic city of Cachoeira.

After breakfast, visit the Dannemann Cultural Center in São Felix. Place where the finest cigars are made, in an artisan way, by the nice ones
even the nonsmokers will be impressed by the cooking process. Then we continue towards Salvador, but we still make a detour to the Bay of Iguapé, east part of the Bay of All Saints. In this remote place we find one of the most significant monuments of the 17th century, the church and the ruins of the Convent of St. Anthony. Majestically situated on the banks of the Paraguaçu River, has already been the scene of parts of the novel Velho Chico. After visiting this unique place, we went to Salvador and stayed near the Pelourinho.

Transfer from Ilheus airport to the interior of the Cacao Coast.
On the way we will visit one of the most beautiful viewpoints of the Brazilian coast (depending on the arrival time of the flight), and then we will travel along the road to Taboquinhas. The small town offers us two waterfalls, if we have time available we will take a refreshing bath.
The lodging will be in a small inn on the banks of Rio de Contas, Mel de Cacau, or in a mansion from the 1930’s. Dinner at local restaurant.

5th day:Walk to one of the most beautiful beaches in Brazil
After breakfast we will walk along the beaches of Resende, Tiririca, Costa and Ribeira, all are small and moon shaped, surrounded by coconut trees. After the beach of Ribeira, we will enter the forest, and we will follow a stream with several small waterfalls and, at a certain point of the trail, we will be able to refresh ourselves in the river. The trail follows in the Atlantic Forest, and almost at the top of the hill standing in a belvedere with a wonderful view. We will descend in the middle of a coconut grove and we will arrive in one of the most beautiful beaches of the Brazilian coast, whose name is Prainha.
Time to rest, drink coconut water in the shade of coconut trees and cool off in the sea.
Return expected to Itacaré in the late afternoon.
Day 6: Free day
Itacaré has many beaches in the surrounding area. On this day we can enjoy the beaches near the city or buy a package to visit the most remote beaches like Jeribucaçú or Itacarezinho. In addition to the beaches there are other tours such as the schooner in the Bay of Camamú, the 4×4 tour to the natural pools of Taipús de Fora and the ride in the Rio de Contas with a visit to a mangrove and a waterfall.
7th day: Transfer Out
Until transfer time, free day to enjoy the beach once more or to do that last minute shopping in the village.

1.POUSADA VILA ROSA
Located in the entrance of Taboquinhas, this old house of a cacao farm was completely renovated and continues with the aspect of the golden age of cacao. Surrounded by decorative gardens and natural stone pools has cocoa plantation and a small chocolate factory. The place offers a dam with kayaks available. The rooms are large with a queen size bed. It has 3 standard rooms with shared bathrooms and a master suite in the big house, 4 suites in the new annex and own restaurant.
2.POUSADA MEL DE CACAU
Located in the community of Pé da Pancada on the banks of the Rio de Contas, within a site of cacao and other fruit trees. The hostel is simple but cozy, with a beautiful view of the Rio de Contas, and offers 3 suites. In the site we have snack bar and possibility of kayaking and stand up paddle in the river, among other activities.
3.POUSADA BAMBU (ITACARÉ)
This charming guesthouse is located just 70 meters from Concha Beach and 300 meters from the center of Itacaré. It was built respecting the environment.
